Non Affiliated: Just a Mental Health Advocate

Updated: Jun 18, 2021

As stated in all of my posts, it is best to always verify with your insurance before services are accepted as things change frequently and some mental health service providers update, change or drop certian insurances. I'd feel terrible if you get billed a service or receive unexpected fees. I am not a therapist, psychiatrist ,etc., affiliated with insurance companies or any of the recommended mental health service providers. I am a mom, wife, full time employee and student working on a Master's in Psychology, but far from a professional or licensed. I have struggled off and on with anxiety and depression in my life, more so as a teenager and today I am a huge advocate for mental health. I believe it is even more important than physical health because most people with poor mental health lack motivation and/or drive to care about their physical health. Exercise and healthy diet are very rarely top of the list for someone struggling with mental illness. I have been there. In bed, not wanting to get out. I have been there, at the grocery store, cart full of items and felt the need to leave even though I needed groceries. I have been there, standing over a cold body of someone that I cared deeply about. I have been in the NICU, two times with two different babies. I have had a hysterectomy and diagnosed with silly diseases in my short 28 years. I don't share these experiences because I want you to feel bad. I don't feel bad about these hard things, about these challenges and I don't want anyone else to feel bad. I want them to remember that no matter how bad things get, the opportunity for them to improve always exists. It's hard to remember. Even for me. Even for those who experience harder times and more sunken ships. It's not a competition. We shouldn't compare and contrast the bad or the hard times we as humans experience. We should accept that things could always be better. Yes, they can be worse. That's obvious, but world, society, whoever is reading this, IT COULD ALWAYS BE BETTER. And there is nothing wrong with that mindset. Mindset is everything.
