With Fourth of July coming up, I wanted to share a couple recipes we enjoy!
(some little handprint art crafts we completed, feel free to recreate with your babes!)
One of our favorite desserts is a layered trifle containing angel food cake, vanilla pudding, cream cheese mixture and fresh fruit. Recipe can be found below! And of course, we top it off to look like the American Flag! Happy 4th!
Red, White and Blueberry Trifle
To make this trifle you will need an angel food cake (already baked and cooled), vanilla pudding, cream cheese, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, vanilla and cool whip.
Cut the angel food cake into squares and place some at the bottom of a trifle dish. (a dish will work as well or even a sterno pan.) Make the vanilla pudding according to directions on package. Mix 1 block of cream cheese with powder sugar until smooth. Careful you do not add too much. If you do, just blend in more cream cheese. Add a drop of vanilla and mix. In a separate bowl add cool whip and fold in half of the vanilla pudding, leaving the remaining vanilla pudding aside. Top angel food cake with vanilla pudding mix, add fruit, layer cream cheese mix, add fruit, add vanilla pudding, add cake squares and repeat. Once you complete the layers, add cool whip and top with blueberries and strawberries to represent the American flag.
Anti-Pasto Salad
Anti-pasto salads are one of my favorite things to eat in the summer! I probably eat it 3/5 days for lunch! And the good news is, it's a healthy meal to eat!
I switch my anti-pasto salads up all the time, but this is by far my favorite one!
I get cauliflower, black olives, pepperoni (that I cut from a pepperoni stick) fresh mozzarella cheese (chop into cubes or use the pearls), block of Monterey jack cheese(cut into cubes), cherry tomatoes or the package with the variety tomatoes, carrots (cut up) and lastly, banana peppers. I mix it all up and then drown with Italian dressing or balsamic vinaigrette. Hope you enjoy!
Red, White & Blue Deviled Eggs
Not my prettiest deviled egg, but all of our guests get a kick out of these! All we do is soak the egg in a food coloring/water concentrate after they are hard boiled and they become a colorful work of art. These are also fun to do at Easter time!
To make the inside of my deviled egg, I mash up the egg yolk, add seasonings, a little bit of ranch dressing, some mayo, a little mustard and top with paprika.
Flag Smores dip!
This was such a hit! First, I cut the big marshmallow in half! Then dipped in a little bit of water and rolled in sprinkles. Using blue and red. Next, I layered the pan with chocolate chips and topped the marshmallows on them to look like an American Flag. I baked for about 20 minutes on 350!
Thanks for reading! Hope that you enjoy these festive Fourth of July dishes!
